Sono state finalmente annunciate le nomination agli Oscar 2019. I film che hanno ottenuto maggiori candidature (ben 10) sono Roma di Alfonso Cuarón (Miglior film e Miglior film straniero) e La Favorita di Yorgos Lanthimos.
Black Panther è il primo cinecomic candidato nella categoria come Miglior Film ed ha anche ottenuto altre sei nomination (perlopiù in categorie tecniche), una in meno di Vice di Adam McKay, candidato tra gli altri a miglior film, miglior regia, miglior attore protagonista (Christian Bale). A Star is Born ha ricevuto 7 nomination, BlacKkKlansman di Spike Lee 6 e “solo” cinque candidature a testa per Bohemian Rhapsody e Green Book.
