Come è accaduto per i Golden Globe anche la premiazione della British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), gli Oscar britannici, è avvenuta totalmente in forma virtuale. La serata ha confermato ancora una volta – come se ce ne fosse bisogno – che Nomadland è il grande favorito nella notte degli Oscar. Infatti ha portato a casa 4 premi molto prestigiosi: miglior film, miglior regia a Chloé Zhao, miglior attrice protagonista a Frances McDormand e migliore fotografia.
Anthony Hopkins è riuscito a superare la concorrenza di Chadwick Boseman e vincere il premio come migliore attore protagonista per la sua interpretazione in The Father, mentre il premio per il più bel film britannico è andato a Promising Young Woman (Una donna promettente) scritto e diretto da Emerald Fennell, al suo esordio alla regia, con una inedita Carey Mulligan.
